Flex Your Mental Muscle

“Practice makes perfect”

But what about mentally practicing?  Going through the ups and downs of your race (or what ever else you want to accomplish) in your mind so that you can be calm and prepared –when and if what you visualized actually happens–is as important as being physically prepared. What if you’re in a triathlon and you get a flat tire? What if you’re singing in a concert and forget a word?  What if you want to talk to your boss and you’re nervous?  If you’ve practiced this happening in your mind, then you have a better chance at remaining calm and getting over and through this little blip.  For Ironman, Chrissie Wellington is not only a physical master, but a mental master as well. I’ve heard her do versions of this speech at Timberman and on Slowtwitch but check this out on CNN:
