This Sunday, the Ironman 70.3 U.S. Professional Championship in Galveston, TX offers a $75,000 prize purse, which includes a $5,000 bonus for the first U.S. professional male and female finishers. The race is also one of only four Ironman 70.3 Championship events worldwide that carries a P-1,500 point allocation. Michael Raelert will see how his speed matches up against Lance Armstrong’s bike attack. We’ll also be able to see American Tim O’Donnell’s early season fitness. Women to watch include Heather Wurtele, Leanda Cave and Kelly Williamson. Other contenders such as Mariono Vanhoenacker and Yvonne Van Vlerken will be gearing up to not only test their fitness but to acquire the early season points necessary to qualify for Kona so that they can streamline their focus later in the year.
