Weekend of Racing

This weekend is a big Ironman weekend.  On Saturday there is Ironman St. George in Utah and the Busselton 70.3 in Western Australia.  On Sunday there is Ironman Australia in Port Macquarie and the St. Croix 70.3. New champions will be crowned and KPR points toward the championships will be accrued.

This weekend, most eyes will be turned to St. Croix, where Lance Armstrong will see if he can best one of the best swimmers and runners in the Ironman circuit, Andy Potts. Armstrong will have to open up a huge gap on the bike if he wants to beat the likes of Potts, Maxim Kriat (who outran everyone last year for the win) Terenzo Bozzone, and Frederik Van Lierde.  Mary Beth Ellis is sure to be fighting for the win against Angela Naeth which should make for a great race.

Other athletes to watch include Maik Twelsiek and Meredith Kessler in St. George, 42 year old Jason Shortis in Australia and 41 year old Belinda Granger in Busselton. We may see some new names emerge as champions this weekend and it will be exciting to watch.
