Former steeplechaser, picky bar founder, aviator wearing triathlete Jesse Thomas is having a year that proves that last year was no fluke winning the Poconos 70.3. I was actually see fleet-footed Thomas actually out-bike German super-rider Maik Twelsiek, who gamely hung on for third place one minute after Jordon Jones. Twelsiek is unfortunately not going to be at the sharp end of the Queen K this year, but with a new coach, Siri Lindley, we will surely see him back on the Big Island next year.
Tenille Hoogland had a stellar day with no woman even coming close to her off the bike with her nearly insurmountable 8 minute lead. Amber Ferreira took 2nd, Beth Shutt 3rd and not forgetting the closing out of a stellar season, newbie pro Jessie Donavan took a solid 4th. The fall weather was probably perfect for the pros and unlike last year, the weather held out and it didn’t rain which always makes for a better race in my book.
