Macca, poised for the win, had an incredibly disappointing Kona that ended in a DNF early on the bike. He says in a great interview on Triathlon Competitor, “I was useless on race day and it just didn’t correlate to where I was in my training or how fit I was.” I for one, will be looking forward to see how both he and Crowie return to fight for the crown and give the youngersters some competition. Not to take anything away from Pete Jacob’s stellar day in the lava fields. Jacobs deserved this win and will have even more confidence coming in to defend his title. Macca says he’s hungry for the 70.3 title but we all know the Kona crown is what he wants to end his career with.
