In a race that included the new queen of Kona (Leanda Cave) and multiple Ironman winner Meredith Kessler, the field in Arizona on Sunday was stacked. But Linsey Corbin patiently waited until mile 19 of the run (after a race best bike) to make the pass on Purple Patch teammate and friend Kessler. Corbin had the season of her career and may have truly found her Purple Patch with her 2nd Ironman win of the year (the first was in Austria over the summer) along with a return to the top-10 in Kona (she nabbed 8th). Corrine Abraham from Great Britain stayed steady all day to take 3rd after Kessler and Cave faded to 6th.
On the men’s side, former ITU short course racer Nils Frommhold successfully made the transition to long course with his first full distance win over veterans Paul Matthews and TJ Tollakson.
