Tis’ the Season for Kona!

We’re just over 2 weeks away from the big dance in Kona! So far, two race favorites are out: Chris McCormack has mono and Mary Beth Ellis has a broken collar bone. Who will rise to the top? I can’t wait!

  1. My favorite would be Craig Alexander…that is, I would like to see him win again. However, the field should be stacked. Maybe this is the year for Caroline S. ? And Miranda…yeah, can you tell, I cant wait either.

    1. Rinny is very very hungry, that’s for sure. Going back to her old coach Siri was an indicator early on. The reigning champ Leanda is the wild card. She’s been injured but always comes on strong late in the season. I’d like to see Bek Keat back in form as well. Very exciting!

    1. Love Crowie–would love to see him make one more bid for the crown. Truly showing that age is no obstacle! I also like Andy Potts and of course Andreas Raelert. So many hardworking and classy triathletes. For the women, I like Caroline Steffen for the win. And I’d like to see Rachel Joyce, Leanda Cave and Rinny give her a great fight. The women’s race is going to be hot! 🙂

  2. I think Frederik Van Lierde will be close to the title. And I’m not just saying that because I’m Belgian. Pete Jacobs doesn’t seem to structure his training as much to achieve consistency in his performances, and Crowie hasn’t performed near his top level this year. Sebastian Kienle is a guy to watch as well. For the women’s side, I really hope Mirinda takes it home. Will be exciting to watch the race unfold!

    1. I think Van Lierde is a great dark horse pick–he’s been consistently getting stronger and stronger. I wonder if Kienle will do a Stadler and try to win it on the bike? And Andreas Raelert has been so close. . . Will it be time for Eneko Llanos to finally have the race he’s been trying to have for the past few years? Also Andy Potts has been looking in form all season. Gosh–it’s anyone’s race! 🙂

  3. Rinny is looking very good. Saw her in action a couple of weeks ago at Ironman 70.3 Muskoka and was a machine on the course. As much as I would love Crowie to win again, I think his time has come and gone. Jacobs is going to contend again, but as always, the men’s field is anyone’s game.

  4. But Macca is not doing it so I’d say Pet Jacobs, Marino and others will still have a lot of chances. The contingent is getting so strong that even Crowie will have a hard time staying up front.
